My There Beach House For Sale

Frisky_103_1

My Beach House For Sale!
http://webapps.prod.there.com/items/view?ItemId=704292

Auction ID 704292
No Reserve
14 days
Original purchase date:12-24-02 12:02 am

I love my house and I love my beach and I love my neighbors; I just don't play There anymore and the rent is due in relentlessly each month. Much of my time spent in There was goofing off on the beautiful beach in front of my house. This Hermit street is almost unknown...there might be 10 houses on it total, and only 5 of those are on the sand. It looks out into the same bay as Crab Rock. I almost thought this beach was nicer than the new ones on Motu, simply because it is much sunnier...there is minimal fog and the sand is bright. There are one or two other beaches on Ootay, but they are packed and over-crowded. Hermit beach is truely made for private hermits.

I don't know if I have ever told the complete story of how I got the house...here goes :)

In early beta, all the houses were gone and there was no way to get one. I found this beach, and I wanted to live there no matter what. At the time, I think the top price paid for a house was around 60k. I emailed everyone on Hermit beach and asked "Would you sell your house for (corrected this from when I found originral story...it was 100k T$ or $60 US)." People thought I was crazy since no one had paid that much for virtual crud in There yet. A few months later the market went crazy and that price was considered cheap. After I emailed the 5 current owners...2 wrote back and said "ok, I'll sell". Mary Poppins and I bought houses right besdie each other! It was so cool. Cytra of There In Person now owns Mary's house. :)

At the time there were no deeds. We had to do it the old way where you delete ownership and regrab it fast in auctions. Mary's house worked, in the middle of my auction, some girl grabbed my house. :( I thought I was out $60 and was so completely sad. The girl showed up luckily and we pleaded with her...she was kind and gave the house back. I think I plopped a brick when I saw my house go to someone else. lol

The beach is a great beah for buggy jumping. Many of the old There Frisky stories were recorded right in front of the house on the beach.

More stories and a few more pics of it at So There.

This is one of the rare times you can snag a beach house, at auction, no reserve. Catch a tan, surf the waves, and enjoy your new beach home! This is a 14 day auction. I am very curious to watch it unfold since the housing market has been so slow and people always ask for insane reserves. I hope the auction is popular. :)

Half-Life 2 Is Hella Good
Run! Don't walk; get your copy now. This is the best game evah and really is fun. It is not a long game and you can crank it out in a week or less if you are addicted. :) The levels are stylish, entertaining, puzzling and fun. This game just does many things well. Already the company has leaked that they are working on Half-life3 and Alyx will be the star.
http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/567/567971p1.html

You can buy and download HL2 right from Stream if you have a fast connection.
http://www.steampowered.com/

Here is an interesting article on Doom3 vs Half-life2. I echo the reviewers comments. While Doom3 was visually stunning and the sounds were amazing, it lacks the fun of HL2. Doom3 makes a major error when choosing to have the whole game be played in the dark with a flashlight...this sucks the fun out of a game that could be been more fun.

There Price Increase Rumored To Be Pushed Back
Many Thereians were plopping their pants this week when There Inc revealed its plans to increase most prices for submissions and auctions. I don't have all the details and I am too lazy to check facts and figures but I've heard they wanted to raise all wholesale prices, often by 100%, and raise submission prices by up to 500%. I've also heard that designers would not get one item free on a new submission.

As an outsider looking in, I can only see two possible reasons for There Inc to do this. Please note that I am pulling these reasons out of my ass and they are not fact, just conjecture, which often makes for the best gossip and rumors. Tee hee ;) My guess is that There Inc wants to reduce staff internally to once again cut costs on a sinking ship. The submissions and auctions have to be labor intensive...if you can cut two staff members interanally, you can save the company probably $100,000 a year. How can you reduce the workload of submissions and auctions? Raise prices through the roof. This is my best guess as to what is occuring and why. My second best guess is that Baloo is attempting some sort of economic trickery that few people believe will work. I can only see this move drastically reducing new products and listings. Some of the most fun you can have in There is desinging and people will simply stop as the costs get too high.

It's was suggested that the DAB somehow wanted these increases...I have yet to meet one DAB member that is not violently opposed to these price increases...why the hell would anyone want their cost of goods to go up? An economist might try to argue that it would reduce competition...pfffff I don't buy that line of reasoning...the top designers already have massive market share.

I've heard through the ninja rumor mill that the price increase will now be pushed back until Feb05.

World Of Warcraft Launches!
Cytra reminded me to add this today! WoW is now open for business and is very popular! This game rates very high and I know many people wanting to play it. It is currently holding the #1 spot at amazon, which shocks me since I thought for sure it would be HL2.

City Of Heroes Announces Upgrade 3!
I've never seen a game company release so many content patches so quickly. It is awesome. Whimsy found this story on So There
http://www.gaminggroove.com/article.php?id=21

Here are some of the new things:
Player Vs Player Arena
Level 50s can create the alien Kheldians
Balancing of Players

Respec and Power Pools

Respec and Power Pools
I've attempted the city of heroes Respec mission approximately eight times now and succeeded twice. I have a few new opinions on the Power Pool sets that might come in handy if you are respecing.

Speed: Super Speed and Hasten
These are still the backbone of my build. I can't imagine not having them...super speed allows you to fight, buy, sell, search etc, faster than every other travel power (except in rare worlds like TV and Boomtown). Hasten makes everything recharge faster. I still consider these almost manditory.

Leadership: Maneuvers, Tactics, Assult
I have to say that I don't like the leadership powers. There are two drawbacks with these powers...1) they take about 10 seconds to turn on all three. This really sucks when they are knocked off in battle, or you run out of end, or you use inferno or an AoE that turns everything off and 2) they suck endurance too hard. All three are endurance pigs when combined. These three powers are not horrible, but I hate the slow turn on times and the endurance drain seems too high for my liking to run all three.

Fighting: Tough Weave
These are not bad, but you have to take boxing or something to get to the third. Endurance use is not bad. Turn on time is slow. I don't mind these but I don't like them that much.

Concealment: Stealth
I still pee my panties for stealth. More of the bad guys see through it now but it still rocks and doubles as defense. The other invis powers aren't great. Phase shift can be used as a great "save my ass" thing if you think about clicking it early enough. Grant Invis can help on missions. The key one is stealth combined with Super Speed.

Leaping: Combat Jump, Super Jump, Acrobatics
Wow! These are pro-level black ninja. Combat jump is not for jumping! You slot it for DEF and I really like that you click it and it is on...no delay. SuperJump is perhaps the most fun travel power. Acrobatics provides additional custom defense and only needs to be one slotted.

Fitness: Health and Stamina
How on earth did I play 40 some levels without this power pool? I can't believe how effective these are and how much more fun they make the game. Because I did not have these, I was constantly monitoring endurance and constantly low. I had to slot everything and anything with endurance reducers. I would take this with every character now. It is really manditory. Starley told me to take this early on and I had too many other things I wanted and I didn't want to committ to 6 levels of griding to get all 6...but now I see you have to. You need to have health and stamina. They make the game so much more easy and fun. They have increased my bub rate, with some other respec changes...by approx 25%. I just did a bub at lvl44 in an hour...something I haven't done since 30s.

The Big Four
My new favorite power pools are then
Concealment
Speed
Jummping
Fitness

You end up with some nice defense.
You end up with two travel powers.
You end up with endurance and health.
You have some invisibilty.

You might consider some or all of these power pools if you respec.

There's Will Harvey Launches IMVU

What The?!
Cytra warned me that something was playing with my spikes. Oh My! Yay! Thank you Cytra for the new Grizzly Bear! Cytra knows that back in TSO, I had the Grizzly Bear Saloon and loved a good chainsaw-carved grizzly bear. I did about 100 searches on Sims Secrets and can't find a good one of my Saloon. Drat. I'll have to go through those some time.

Will Harvey's Next Ninja Move
Sassy Sid found this hot hot news in the forum. IMVU is this slick new IM client add one. You can use it with Yim and MSN and ICQ etc, and it makes the chat into avatar based chat. The product is in early beta. Here is the website
http://www.imvu.com

Have you seen this designer before? Or maybe this one? Notice who owns the domain. None other than Will Harvey. I think this could be a hit. Most people chat and chat does not have a short lifespan of a game. But, will you hit critical mass of distribution...like will you get enough downloads to make it work? I don't know. Starley and I gave the beta a try and we were in tears we were laughing so hard because it was so buggy that funny sentences kept repeating. Try the beta and see what you think. It is all going to be designer based income. There is a porn area! Yay! If you design for There, you can now design for IMVU.

One thing that already bugs me is the website speed. I don't know why, but Harvey's websites all suck for speed. I don't think it is his ISP. It must be the xml calls or something since I just don't understand why There auctions and this new site suck for speed! Maybe because it is so secure? I don't know but this has to be fixed.

Twiddler, Face Down, In the Dirt
I went on my first Sewer super mission where you have to beat up momma hydra who makes krakens. This is a death mission but hella scary and fun. There are 3 stages...kill 150 ritki in the abandonned sewers and then one person gets back to contact...it totally helps if you have a team member with invis and tp. Then go into the secret entrance and down a scary circle pit room and grab 8 secret weapons...you each want one. Again, invisibility for team is key here. Then jump to the bottom and beat up some hydra. Then you get to beat up the hydra's arms, and then her. We never even got to her. At the end, everyone on the team had 70,000 - 150,000 debt. LOL Eeeep! If you win you get a secret tricky enhancement.

WoW Stress Test Started

Check your email, you can now create a World Of Warcraft account, then create a character and log on! Smooches tipped me off to it and we were both able to create. This only works if you got a gamespy key.

CoH Grinding

CoH Tip No.6 - Confessions Of A Grinder
It's my last day for CoH blab so I thought I would do my top20 tricks. Today's screenshot was taken 10 seconds before I tripped and fell off the crane, into a pile of purple and red bad guys who quickly spanked my ass. LoL I was so embarrassed for falling that I ran to the hospital. haha.

No.1 Inspirations
For some reason, we all stop using inspirations around level 12. inspirations work! If you aren't that tough, buy more damage, if you burn endurance, buy lots of blues. Inspiration helps any player do better, especially when soloing.

No.2 Be Picky About Targets
I've joined a lot of hunting teams that are "Kill! Kill! Kill!" When you kill every group of badguys that you meet, you are most likely not maximizing xp. You will make way more xp per hour of you are selective and picky. Some badguys take forever to kill like paragon protectors and some freaks. Some villians are way to tough and some are way too weak. Find the villians that you like to beat and the ones that are good XP. You do not have to kill everything on the road...it's ok to jog more and look around for a few seconds.

No.3 Small Teams
I really like small teams. Try some 2,3 and 4 man teams and I think you will see your pink XP bar grow a little faster.

No.4 Be Picky About Missions
If you love scenic beauty, then take that Circle Of Thorns missions from hell, but if you like xp...don't! :) You can be selective about missions. Only take the missions you enjoy.

No.5 Find a Strategic Contact
Cities become a lot easier when you get a contact in a key location. A contact is really helpful since they can sell you inspiration! They will also sometimes sell you TOs. At higher levels, the contacts like Serifina, sell you SOs and buy TOs DOs and SOs. Contacts can help you level faster because they save time by providing these services. When I find a contact in a spot I want to hunt, I do all their missions to open up their store...this makes future xp gains easier since I can now buy blues and green, and have way less down time.

No.6 Loops
For every city you can make up small hunting loops. You don't need to jog 100 miles! Here are my three favorite hunting loops in Bricktown as an example. I wend from lvl 28 to 38, almost exclusively in Bricktown.

No.7 One Bub A Day
The best way to level fast is being consistant. Try to stick to a daily plan. My plan is one bub or dot a day. Every 10 days you level, but at the lower levels you can do two bubs a day pretty easily. I also find its easier to grind when you get to 7 out of 10 and can usually finish a level that day or the next. Set a reasonable daily goal and the levels go by steadily.

No.8 Timed Missions
Remember you can always take a timed mission and not do it, and still make a little XP when it times out...kind of a bonus. :D

No.9 Toss Enhancements
Don't be scared to throw away enhancements when you begin to waste time selling them. As you go up in level, eventually TOs are not worth the time to sell unless you have a contact close...toss them and go for all DOs once the DOs start dopping on your regularily. Once you hit the mid 30s, it's even time to start thinking about tossing DOs as you go for all SOs in an effort to manage time better.

No.10 Minion Bowling
If you can get AOE weapons or travel with people that have them, minion bowling is often the fastest XP.

No.11 Power Pools
My favorite power pools continue to be Hasten, Super Speed and Stealth. Consider these powers for your build. They make fighting easier and will help you level faster.

No.12 Defense Works
Think about adding 2-3 defensive powers to your build and you will die less often. Stealth, Combat Jump, Maneuvers, Tough and Weave are all good defensive powers.

No.13 Avoid The Temptation To Re-Roll
We all make mistakes in our builds...don't sweat it. One or two bad choices means nothing in the long run. You don't have to be perfect. Re-rolling can set you days or weaks behind. Learn to use the powers you have. I can't tell you how many times I've choosen a new power and then thought "omfg this power sucks turds!" and then in a week or two...I love that same power. I took fire ring and hated it...now I use it constantly. I just got Inferno a few weeks ago and simply hated in...now I don't know what I would do without it. We are all insecure about choices. Many times the choices turn out fine. Often weapons need to be four or six slotted before they function properly. Sometimes we do get a crummy choice...don't worry...in the long run, three to four bum choices does not matter. We all have a few weak weapons.

No.14 Use the patrol guard
When you want to test the villians of a dangerous new area like Perez or Brick, stick near your friendly neighborhood lvl 50 patrol guard. Try a fight and then run back to them for safety. It's a good way to experiment.

No.15 Always Turn Left
If you are not sure how to solve a map, use the always turn left technique and you will never go wrong since you solve the map in a logical manner with this method.

No.16 Try a Recharge Reducer
One enhancement that is often forgotten is the recharge reducer. Try one of these on all your weaons and I think you will be pleased with the results.

No.17 Sell Enhancements at the correct origin store
By selling at the correct store, you make more money. The exception to this rule is when you would normally toss an enh but see a store close by so you can quickly sell to grab fast cash rather than toss.

No.18 Read the Official Forum
the official forum is helpful. It is super busy and I use it every time I want to choose a new power now. Maybe you are considering power A vs power B, check out the coh forums and you will find tons of info that will help make your decision. Most questions can be answered in the forums.

Np.19 Talk Before a Fight
Some teams never say a word to each other. I prefer teams that talk a little strategy and have a plan. Simple things like "lets all sniper boss first" help the team know what to do and then disappointing deaths are avoided.

No.20 Combine the Best Enhancements
When you are turning a regular enhancement into a + or ++, buy the best one allowed. It seems pricey, but will combine more often than the cheaper one which fails at a level which makes it more expensive.

Those are my Frisky CoH Tips. I hope they are useful and entertaining.

CoH Missions

There are many types of missions in CoH, some are more fun than others; some are more xp than others. Today blab is about

Missions By XP
Three Other Ways To Do Missions
Always Turn Left Technique

Missions For XP
Here is how I rate missions from worst to best

CoT Caves and 5th Caves
Circle of Thorn and 5th caves are beautiful and adventurous missions, but they are the lowest for XP due to the difficult winding and massive structures of the caves. The early CoT missions aren't too bad, but the latter ones are hell. Yes they are very pretty, but when you have to find 16 books in a labyrinth and can't find the last one, it becomes very frustrating and time consuming. My advice is to avoid these missions if you like xp, take them if you like pretty scenery. You never have to take a mission from a contact...they are all optional and eventually as you level, that contact will offer you a new contact with different missions, even if you haven't done his/her misisons.

Spaceships and Office Buildings
These missions are in the middle. The layouts are not as bad as caves, but these can be three levels tall and each level can have multilevels. It's easy to miss a badguy or a stick of dynamite and so retracing steps takes time.

Warehouses and Sewers
These are my favorite of all missions. I love warehouse missions since they are "one level". You can see the entire map the whole time and so if an errors or misses are made, it's much easier to retrace your steps. These "flat" missions are my personal favorite for faster xp.

Three Other Ways To Do Missions
Remember I talked about taking Stealth and or Super Speed? Once you have stealth, you can do missions in more ways than "beat up all bad guys and touch all items and kill boss". It just gets boring doing every mission that way and sometimes a mission is too hard and you only want to finish it. When you have stealth, you can do missions ninja like.

Find Item Missions
With invisibilty you can slink around past bad guys and just touch items. I find this to be fun because you feel sneaky. :) You don't get much XP, but you can do a mission in 4 minutes with super speed and stealth. I like to see just how fast I can do them this way.

Rescue Marge
You sometimes get a "rescue young Jimmy" mission. On these missions, you only have to kill the two badguys holding the hostage. I like to sneak in, run the map, find the hostage, take out the two and onto the next town. Not great xp, but a fun change of pace and you feel you have pulled one over on the bad guys.

Timed Missions
Here is a trick if you are sick of tired missions...just take them and don't do them. Yep. :) I take them, let them tick out and you end up with 600xp whch the clock runs out. It is like free money as you street hunt.

It's not great xp, but I find doing missions in stealthy ways makes the game more fun since it's one more option.

Always Turn Left Technique
This will save you tons of time in CoT early caves and warehouses and many maps. Agree with your party that you will map it by always tunring left. Now you might choose right, but I always go left. If you always turn the same direction, you will complete every room in like a circle loop and not miss anything. Let me make a fast drawing. Go Left! This efficiently solves a map and makes a team faster since you all know where you are going and all agree where you are going.

Notes On Earlier Tips
I forgot to mention one other thing you can do with tip pooling, again to save time...once you both have 10 DOs or TOs, tell each other what you have and then trade so you get the fewest origins...like if you have 5 magic, 3 natural, 1 science, 1 mutant, 1 tech, see if your partner has any magic...they might need the tech...trade so you both have less sell-running to do.

With regards to stealth and maneuvers, one thing that is nice about stealth is that...if you get hit and it gets turned off, its instant on and you can turn it on while you are running. Maneuvers, on the otherhand, locks your feet for 1-2 seconds and this can be dangerous in a battle.

CoH Maxing XP

Worlds Of Warcraft, Everquest2 or Guild Wars?
I have friends peeing their frilly white panties over each and everyone of these games. Blonde Hottie Faye has been waiting three years for Everquest2 and I got an advertisement for it at the movie theater last week! I think with ads in place, the game will be opening soon. EQ2 sounds like EQ1 with talking bad guys. You can already pre-order the game. Here is the contest page if you want to register but I think you need to look at the page inside with like red lenses or something.
http://clients.eprize.net/sony/everquest2/

Here is the beta page for Everquest2
http://everquest2.station.sony.com/#beta

Everquest2 has the huge backing of Sony who has had the terrific hit "Star Wars Galaxy.

Cytra and Smooches tell me they are peeing for World Of Warcraft. The warcraft series was very popular and this game is highly anticipated. What worries me a little is the lack of noise from the beta community. Hopefully we'll all get into the stress-test beta and get to test it out for ourselved. Pirate Sid and I both had currupted downloads of the beta. If this happens to you, one thing that fixed it for me was to use winzip9 beta. You can download it here.

The lesser known of the big three is Guild Wars. Sid and I believe this is going to be the surprise hit. A few of us got into the Guild Wars alpha test at E3 and that alpha test was more stable than There on a good night! ROFL. Guild Wars is produced by NCsoft and that's a good indication that it will be innovative and fun. Here are some quotes that catch my eye...

"Guild Wars takes the best elements of today's massively multiplayer online games and combines them with a new mission-based design that eliminates the tedium of those games."

"You don't have to spend countless hours on a leveling treadmill to get to the interesting parts of the game, because combat is designed to be strategically interesting and challenging right from the beginning."

"unique streaming technology forever eliminates the concept of patching a game. You don't have to wait a month for the next big patch to experience new content. Instead, the game constantly and intelligently streams new content to your computer in the background."

I like what I am reading. I really like how There was "one world", where Sims Online and City of Heros are multiple servers. Guild Wars is one world! You just downloaded the WoW game and it was like 2 fucking gigs! LoL, the Guild Wars client was tiny! Seriously, I was shocked it even ran but it did! And it downloaded elements of the game as we played. That is very sweet technology.

GW is almost available for pre-order as well
http://www.guildwars.com/preview/wpe-faq.html

CoH Tip No.4 - Maxing XP
For me, maxing XP is about not wasting time. Here are my comments and opinions :)

Groups
Hunting Vs Missions Vs Task Force
Foes and AoE
Loops

Groups
You can make XP solo-ing or in a group. Solo-ing is often boring, but can make more XP at the higher levels. Right now I just want to blab about groups. The best groups are "small" groups. The only time big groups make great xp is when you are in a group with maybe 3 levels (14 15 16) and you are the 14, or when you are in an eight man group and sk'd. Generally speaking, smaller groups are the most efficient.

The problem is wasted time. When you have eight people together, you will get far more:

gotta pee
gotta feed dog
brb beer bio
phone call, one sec
gotta sell

This wastes time and the groups ends up carrying one or two slackers or ends up standing around a lot. If someone dies, and people often die, you waste more time. Big groups are ok if you all know each other and all like hunting as a special team, but big random groups are usually hit and miss for xp. You might have the crazy "charrrrrge!!! kill kill kill" maniacs that have a team death wish, combined with the slow and calm fighting strategists. Big teams are fun and social and interesting, but they are not great xp.

Small teams are tight and fast, and bond together quickly. My favorite teams are 2, 3 and 4 players. Raizer, Starley, Snow Flurries and I used to regularily team and would go slide missions smoothly and efficienly. Small teams communicate well and work together well to maximixe fun and xp.

Hunting Vs Missions Vs Task Force
Maxing xp is often about efficient use of time.

Missions simply waste a lot of time because they incorporate

go see contact
tell group and run through two maps and a park
find door and don't die on way
fight through mission
get back through two cities to contact

this added crap and the start and end of all missions simply wastes time. Missions are a lot of fun and they are interesting, but sometimes you watch that pink bar and it doesn't move and you think "what could I do to move this bar?" What you could do is join a hunting party for a night or two and give that a try and see how you like it, rather than 100% missions.

Task Force Missions are better XP, simply because they force you to play CoH for five hours straight. ROFL :) If you forced yourself to street hunt for five hours, you would have hella xp as well. So Task Force missions are good XP, simply because the time committment. The thing I hate about TFs is again the fiddle-fucking around at the start. I've waited 30-60 minutes for a TF to get started on more than one occasion. I think too many TF organizers want 8 players. I personally believe a well oiled 5 man team does as well on a TF as a wild and wooly 8 man team. A TF can raise you up an entire level in one night during the earlier TF levels. Just becareful...if you are the weakest member of the team, try and get sk'd. I don't know the stats but I'm guessing 25%-33% of TFs seem to give up early when they get slapped on the first map. If you are the strongest member of the TF, you won't get much xp...try to be in the middle for a balance of xp and safety.

Street Hunting is often the best xp simply because there is no time being wasted going from map to map and contact to contact. You are "Go! Go! Go! Kill! Kill! Kill!". The biggest dangers in street hunting are team leaders that try to kill too-dangerous of targets. It's ok to quit psycho teams. :)

Foes and AoE
Who you attack also has an effect on xp. AOE is area of effect or point blank area of effect...these are weapons that hit more than one bad guy. More on this in a minute. You have three choices:

kill small numbers of tough bad guys
kill medium numbers of medium bad guys
kill large numbers of weak bad guys

For XP, I rank them:

1. kill many weak
2. kill few tough
3. kill medium medium

The best xp is always in "minion bowling". When you can find 10-12 minions, white, blue or yellow, maybe orange, and then get everyone ready, then hit the AOE attacks, this is great xp and you are also in less danger of dying since you are fighting weaker opponents. Almost all heros can have some sort of AOE attack. The key to AOE weapons is

they should be six slotted with lots of damage
using more than one at once helps
they need the aid of AIM or BUILD up for more damage

Attacking minions in this way helps level sooner. If you don't have an aoe attack available, the next best choice is to attack one or two higher level monsters. You can use your regular weapons to beat them down. This can be good xp, but you are at greater risk of dying, and I personally go through inspirations at a much faster rate this way.

Loops
I don't like to think too hard when I'm street hunting and so I am always trying to find street loops that I can repeat over and over. This is kind of like using the pattern in pacman. lol You don't have to boldly adventure through every street in a city when you hunt, find a 2-4 block area and run it over and over. Bad guys spawn ultra quick so there is no need to jog 100 miles. Again, the goal is to not waste time. I always loop near the tram when I am new to a city. This is safer (run to mister police drone when I'm scared) and easier to sell when I am full of enhancments. As you level, you move one or two blocks away each level. Simple loops work and your team will get faster and faster as you develop a rythm with where you are hunting.

World Of Warcraft Stress Test Beta
Word travels fast! Sidney showed me this link last night; Sid, Cytra and I all got signed up, and then I showed Smooches this am and the list was already full! I tend to think this is just their way to get you to pay the $15, but here is the info anyways....

Update! Smooches just got a key so they seem to stall people 6-12 hours. :)

WoW is about to do a beta stress test and hammer the servers with lots of people running around. you can signup for the test here or here
http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/world-of-warcraft/542708p1.html
http://www.fileplanet.com/betacenter/wow/stress_test/index_open.aspx

If you get lucky, you get a key in email and can DL the client. It's massive! over 2gig and it took me 3-4 hours. The stress test is not open yet. My guess is that it will in the next few weeks or less. Check it out. :)

CoH Tip No.3 - Enhancements
Today I want to talk about enhancements:

Stores
TOs DOs SOs
Placement
+ ++ Gambling
Slotting
Tip Pooling
Tossing

Stores
Most people know this now but it's good to go over it one more time...I don't think I figured this out until about level 15...you get MORE money selling enhancements at the proper shop. You can sell enhancements at ANY store, but if you sell at the proper origin store, you get 50%-70% more money. It's worth it, most of the time, to try and sell at the correct store.

There are sites on line with maps of the stores and there is even a map hack you can install that shows you where the stores are. I use this page of maps. Now once you get up into the 30s, there are no stores and it becomes a pain in the ass. :) You can still sell at the stores in Talos, but you have to buy from an in player character. I am a mutant and so I have to buy from Penny in Founder Falls. There is a list of the high level stores (players) here. To buy and sell to these players you need to do one simple mission for them. I did all of them since I wanted more spots to sell to save time when hunting.

TOs DOs SOs
TO is traing origin, DO is dual or double origin, and SO is single origin. This may not be the correct advice, but this is how I did it...as soon as I could buy DOs, I never bought anymore TOs, and as soon as I could buy SOs, I never bought anymore DOs. The stronger enhancements are so strong that I feel it is better just to sell weaker and save up.

Players like trading with friends and some people even try to sell on the request channel. I think it's fun to try and trade with friends for the first 15 levels, but it eventually becomes a time waster and I think it is better just to haul all your enhancements to the store and sell them, keep the insp and buy what you really want since you rarely get dropped many useful enhancements. I would not recommend spamming the request channel trying to unload enhancements.

+ ++ Gambling
When you combine enhancements, they go to + and ++. A 15 combined with a 15 will go 15+ and that is really now a 16. A 15++ is a 17. When you get into the levels where you have to + and ++, you might be tempted to buy a cheaper enhancment and take a chance on it working. I've tested this a couple times and it is my experience that you will end up wasting more money by gambling and trying to save cash by going cheap. It's better to buy the most expensive enhancement and combine. If you buy a 10 to add to a 15, it will fail at rate greater than the savings you incure. You might try this test yourself. I personally find the cheapest route is to combine the best or most pricey enhancements. So if you are at 15, buy 15s, not 10s.

Slotting
There are many ways to slot powers. Here are just a couple tips you might find useful.

Endurance
If you don't have stamina and suck on endurance (like me haha), then you should probably have one endurance in all your powers that you often use. One endurance enhancement helps a ton.

Slotting For Damage
On some of your shooting and hitting powers, you might have it set up something like

1 end reduce
2 aim
3 damage

This is a great combo and works well. It really all depends on if you prefer fighting red and purples or yellows. I slot a little differently and you might want to give this a try. I prefer

1 end reducer
1 aim
1 recharge
3 damage

I really like one recharge on my weapons that I fire constantly. I've tested these weapons several ways...I think one afternoon I wasted 500,000 in insp testing everything from 6 damage to 6 recharge and various aim configs. Fast shooting weapons hit max fire speed with only one or two recharges on them. When you add a recharge into the mix, I find that I personally kill bad guys 20-30% sooner. You will drain end faster, but you are killing faster which is safer...you want to get off more shots that the opponent. Check out the top left of this screen shot and see my fireblast and flares. If you have some quick shooting weapons, you might give this configuration a test drive.

Tip Pooling
If you've worked in a restaurant, you've probably heard of tip-pooling. Instead of each waitress keeping her tips, they all pool them and divide them up at the end of the night. I like to do this in CoH! This works best when you are hunting with one friend, two max. Enhancements drop randomly and so always someone gets a bunch and others get none on any given evening. It can be fun to agree to tip pool. You each collect enhancements, then when someone hits 10, he starts to give the other person one or two at a time until they are at ten. He/she gives them the lowest ones in his/her collection.

This helps your small team have more fun and bold. This also saves time. I am huge on saving time when trying for xp and big time waster is "gotta sell". If you all sell at different times, it really slows things down. When you Tip-Pool, you all sell at the same time and everyone is happy with a 10 load of enhancements.

When you get higher in levels, you might decide to toss all TOs and only go for DOs. When you get higher still, you might go for only SOs. When I get to team with Starley in PI, we might agree on a SO run. We toss all TOs and DOs. Sometimes we might trade DOs at the start, just incase someone has to leave early, but then we start tossing them too until we hit the full boat-load of SOs, then off to the Talos stores. It's fun and more xp efficient to Tip Pool. :)

Tossing
I know it hurts to throw money on the street, but there comes a point when going to the store is expensive in terms of time. You will get to a point where TOs are not worth the time to sell...toss them. You will then get to a point there DOs are not wirth selling...don't be scared to toss enhancements when they become more of a hastle do to their low worth. If you are with people and sk-ing a friend, by all means, please don't toss without offering the enhancements to them! This makes them happy and you won't feel as bad tossing them away.

Now there are a few tricks you can do to avoid tossing...this is the time to sell at the wrong store or two the wrong contact. If I have to toss but I am near a store or contact, I will sell. You get less for them, but you get value and you don't waste time. I used to do this constatnly in Brick. Serifina is near the hospital and the scientific guy who sells SOs is down deep in the redzone. I used to run from Serifina to him, sell all TOs and DOs, run back and repeat until I had the pure ten SOs and then off to talos. This way you waste no time and you make some change too.
